Panasonic releases a firmware update for a numer of their digital cameras that can identify genuine Panasonic batteries. Panasonic has developed this technology – for your protection – after it was discovered that some aftermarket 3rd party batteries did not meet the safety standards Panasonic uses. Some of these batteries are not equipped with internal protective devices to guard against overcharging, internal heating and short circuit.
